Reiki & Yoga

Hello!

Lately I have been doing a lot more yoga than I did previously, and actually enrolled in a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training that begins this fall. Along with deepening my practice with asanas and learning more about the background and other aspects, I have also been experimenting with combining my yoga practice with my Reiki one, and it has been really enlightening.

When I first got into Reiki in 2013 (when I took a Reiki 1 course with Joanna, the previous owner of THC) I remember part of my reasoning was to expand on my yoga practice, thinking the two would complement each other, yet I can honestly say that up until the past couple of weeks, those two practices of mine never really crossed paths. Whoops!

I really try to follow and trust wherever I am led by the universe and my instincts, and honor the journey for what it is. Perhaps those years in between my first Reiki class and my first upcoming yoga teacher training class were meant to be as long as they are. Maybe I needed to let my Reiki practice grow and evolve first. Thinking back, I can see now how I likely would have been forced to make a choice between the two, had I attempted to fit both practices into my life as equal components at a time when other elements of my life were so turbulent. Instead, I thankfully, and subconsciously, allowed Reiki to take the lead. I still practiced yoga, but not as seriously and honestly as I do now. After completing Reiki levels through Master Teacher, offering Reiki shares and student clinics, private client sessions, and teaching levels 1 and 2, I finally feel like I am comfortable. I know my Reiki practice, and I trust now that I can balance it with yoga with equal passion and dedication.

I am just dipping my toes in the combining of the two lately, but mostly I’ve found release  and bliss by giving myself Reiki at my crown and at my heart while in lotus or savasana at the end of one of my yoga sessions at home. I will definitely be experimenting with it more, and seeing what resonates most. I would love to hear from anyone who also incorporates the two in their life!

After I finish my yoga teacher training in Spring of next year, I hope to create new offerings for clients of The Healing Center that join Reiki and yoga together in some way. In the meantime, I’ll be journaling here about my yoga path. I look forward to sharing this journey with you!

Namaste.
